From a supermarket basement in Chelsea to an indelible Broadway force, Roundabout Theatre Company has created lasting memories for audiences spanning six decades. Now, a new era for Roundabout is on the horizon.

The Next Stage Campaign is our $120 million effort to fortify Roundabout and its future. We’ve raised over 75% of our goal, and we hope you’ll join us.

With bold leadership, a sound financial foundation, and a commitment to taking impactful artistic risks, this is the time to invest in our programs, buildings, and reserves.

The Next Stage Campaign will secure Roundabout’s future by maintaining and expanding our vital programs on and off stage, growing our Board Designated Fund, and preparing for a comprehensive renovation of Studio 54, cementing it as Roundabout’s long-term home for musical theatre.

Our Next Innovation

As part of the Next Stage Campaign, Roundabout will undertake the first comprehensive renovation of Studio 54 in its 100-year history. This project will preserve the history and magic of this legendary venue while modernizing it to provide the best experience for our audiences and artists.

Our Next Generation

Beyond the work on stage, Roundabout invests millions each year into new play development initiatives, community engagement, and education programs. Gifts to the Next Stage Campaign will help us maintain and expand these programs, deepening our work in building the future of theatre in our city.

Our Next Legacy

Roundabout's Next Stage Campaign

Naming Opportunities

This ambitious campaign is only possible because of the generosity of those who believe in our mission and the importance of Roundabout as a New York City institution. We’re so grateful to the donors who have already committed their extraordinary support to help us reach our goal of $120 million. If you are interested in making a leadership gift of $100,000 or more to name a program or a location in the newly renovated Studio 54, please reach out to Glenn Alan Stiskal at [email protected] or 212-719-9393 ext. 253.

Vital Programs

Support for the Next Stage Campaign will bolster all Roundabout’s programs, some of which include musical production, new play development, and the education and community engagement initiatives that build the artists and audiences of tomorrow.

Scott Ellis Musical Production Fund

Roundabout is the only not-for-profit theatre company dedicated to consistently producing full-scale classic musicals, on Broadway and off. However, production costs of a single musical can cost triple that of a Broadway play. The Scott Ellis Musical Production Fund, part of the Board Designated Fund provides essential underwriting to fully realize the artistic vision of a musical.

Scott Ellis has made Roundabout a home for artistically vital musical theatre since he directed Roundabout’s first ever musical, the iconic 1993 Broadway revival of She Loves Me. He became Deputy Artistic Director in 1998, and he guided Roundabout as Interim Artistic Director after Todd Haimes passed away in 2023. To honor his extraordinary leadership, we’ve named the Musical Production Fund for him, and the fund will ensure that musicals stay central to Roundabout’s mission into the future.

New Play Initiative

The New Play Initiative fosters a creative home for emerging, mid-career, and seasoned writers and directors, allowing tremendous artistic freedom and providing robust support through commissions, artistic stipends, developmental readings and workshops, residencies, and writing retreats.

Education at Roundabout

Since 1996, Roundabout has filled a gap where our public education programs fall short. By connecting Teaching Artists to classrooms and developing customized partnerships with schools, we reach students in ways traditional models cannot. We help students collaborate, create, and think deeply about the world around them, all to promote wellbeing, engagement, and academic success across all subjects. Learn more about the impact of our Education programs in the video below.

Board Designated Fund

Ten years ago, our board created a financial reserve to ensure Roundabout’s survival in the event of a crisis like the Great Recession—or as it would turn out, the pandemic. We have drawn on this resource to put artists back to work, put Teaching Artists back in classrooms, and launch innovative access programs like Pay-What-You-Wish ticketing.

With your support, The Next Stage Campaign will replenish this reserve so we can keep great theatre at the heart of our civic life, no matter what the future holds.
